Tickfloor vs backtesting tools (AlgoTest, Backtrex, QuantConnect)
Which should I use?
Use AlgoTest, Backtrex or QuantConnect if you want to build a strategy and run your own backtests. Use Tickfloor if you want to see what a large set of tests found once luck was taken out. They answer different questions, so they sit well side by side.
Where they win
- QuantConnect: you write code, test on equities, forex, crypto, futures and options data, and its paid plans can trade live through brokerages. The free plan has unlimited backtesting on one node, with no live trading.
- Backtrex: no code needed. You build rules on a chart, it has 61 indicators, covers 17 assets (forex, indices, commodities, crypto) and exports to Pine Script.
- AlgoTest: built for traders in India, and it gives 25 free backtests a week.
- All three let you test your own idea. Tickfloor does not. It only publishes tests we ran ourselves.
Where Tickfloor is different
- Luck is counted. We ran 1,774 tests and corrected for all of them (Benjamini-Hochberg). 0 cleared the full bar. We did not find that kind of count on those three sites, but we may have missed it.
- Random controls. 300 coin-flip strategies went through the same test, so a rule has to beat chance.
- Costs are charged in every test, and the benchmark pays none.
- Public registry of every test, failures included.
Prices
We don't copy competitor prices here. QuantConnect, Backtrex and AlgoTest each change plans often, so see their own pricing pages (the plan list on Backtrex's page has changed in the sources we read). Tickfloor right now: Week A$15, 3-month A$49, Founder A$299.
General information only. It doesn't consider your objectives, finances or needs. Tickfloor holds no financial services licence and never places trades.
Can Tickfloor backtest my own strategy?
No. Tickfloor publishes tests we ran ourselves, with the results checked for luck. To test your own rule, use a tool like QuantConnect, Backtrex or AlgoTest.
Why compare with these tools?
People ask which tool to use to test trading ideas. The honest answer is that they do different jobs, and this page says which one does what.
