Tickfloor vs the TradingView strategy tester
Which should I use?
Use the TradingView strategy tester if you want to chart a stock, write your own rules and get alerts while the market is open. Use Tickfloor if you want to know whether a trading rule beat luck, because it publishes 1,774 tests that were corrected for how many we tried. Plenty of people use both.
Where they win
- Charting. TradingView is a full charting platform. Tickfloor is not one.
- A big catalog of community scripts. You can browse indicators and strategies other people published and open-sourced.
- Live alerts. You can set price alerts on its plans, and the free plan includes 3.
- A free plan. Basic is free, with 2 indicators per chart and 1 chart per tab.
- Your own idea. You write the rule in Pine Script and test it on the chart in front of you. Tickfloor only publishes tests we ran ourselves.
Where Tickfloor is different
- Luck is counted. We ran 1,774 tests and corrected for all of them (Benjamini-Hochberg). A tester shows the run in front of you. It cannot know how many versions you tried before this one. 0 of our tests cleared the full bar.
- Random controls. We ran 300 coin-flip strategies through the same test, so a rule has to beat chance and not only beat zero.
- Costs are charged. Every test pays trading costs. The benchmark pays none, which makes it harder for a rule to look good.
- Public registry. Every test we ran is listed, including the ones that failed.
Prices
TradingView prices differ by country and change, so we don't copy them here. See its pricing page. Tickfloor right now: Week A$15, 3-month A$49, Founder A$299. You can also score 3 stocks a day free with a free account.
General information only. It doesn't consider your objectives, finances or needs. Tickfloor holds no financial services licence and never places trades.
Is Tickfloor a TradingView strategy tester replacement?
No. TradingView charts and tests your own rules. Tickfloor publishes results of tests it ran and checks them for luck. They do different jobs.
Which one is free?
TradingView has a free Basic plan with limits. Tickfloor lets you score 3 stocks a day free with a free account, and its paid passes are Week A$15, 3-month A$49 and Founder A$299.
