1,342 Trading Strategies Tested vs a Benchmark
1,342 strategies across 77 families. None passed the corrected test against an equal-weight benchmark that pays no costs.
We coded 1,342 published or popular trading strategies (1,759 scored runs) and ran each through one harness that charges trading costs, compares against an equal-weight benchmark rebalanced daily that pays no trading costs, and only sees data up to 2025-03-15. 265 finished ahead of it on the raw number. After Benjamini-Hochberg correction across 1,774 tests, 0 met the q < 0.1 threshold. That does not prove no strategy works.
The strategies split 510 crypto, 366 ETF and 466 US-stock tests across 77 families, covering momentum, mean reversion, macro, sentiment and event-driven setups. Every family has its own results page, indexed at https://tickfloor.com/research/strategies, and none of them is allowed to see data past the discovery cutoff before its numbers are locked in.
The full registry is published at https://tickfloor.com/research-registry.json.
Multiple testing is the reason a raw win count is the wrong headline number: score enough strategies and some will clear p < 0.05 purely by chance, the same way flipping enough coins turns up a run of heads. Benjamini-Hochberg correction controls the share of those false discoveries across the whole batch rather than judging each strategy in isolation, which is why the corrected figure, not the raw one, is the one that matters here.
Strategies pay trading costs and the benchmark pays none, so every comparison here is tilted against the strategies. Costs are not the whole story: re-run with zero costs, 196 of the 211 strategies we could re-run still lag the benchmark. The same harness and the same discovery cutoff apply to every result on this page and every family page beneath it.
