Reading candles

Name the parts of a candle and read a few common shapes without trusting them too much. Free lesson 7 of 13 in Tickfloor's course, no card needed.

What a candle shows

A candle shows four prices for one chosen stretch of time: the open, the high, the low and the close.

The thick part, called the body, runs from the open to the close. The thin lines above and below, called wicks, show the highest and lowest prices reached in between.

If it closed higher than it opened, the candle is usually green (or hollow). If it closed lower, it is usually red (or filled in).
